Successful Travel Industry Press event set to boost Tourism in Reading
7th April 2025
The Great West Way® Media Discovery event, celebrating English Tourism Week, has been a huge success for Reading.
The event hosted over 40 top travel media and 40 Ambassador tourism businesses and destinations. It included a walking tour around the town and its medieval history, the opportunity to see the unique Victorian Bayeux Tapestry in Reading Museum, a visit to Reading’s Gaol and a Thames Rivercruise boat trip.
In addition, a new Great West Way Jane Austen 250 campaign was launched, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of this amazing author’s life. Visiting press were able to visit Reading's links to the author, including Jane Austen's schoolroom, opening later this spring, followed by a Jane Austen afternoon tea at Reading Roseate.
Over 1,600 pre-scheduled 1:1 meetings took place. The press attendees included editors, journalists, influencers and content creators, from a range of regional, national and international titles, who met with tourism businesses and destinations who feature along the Great West Way route, including attractions, hotels, and transport.
Since its inception in April 2018, the Great West Way Ambassador Network has gained the support of over 250 top-tier tourism businesses, destinations, and attractions along the route, making it one of the world’s premier touring routes.
This event was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate what Reading has to offer, making it known to key influencers in the tourism industry.
