Reading Pubwatch Reaches National Pubwatch Finals
2nd September 2022
The local Reading Pubwatch have been successful in their application to the National Pubwatch Schemes Award for 2022 and have been shortlisted as a finalist.
The prestigious award is given in recognition for schemes working to provide safe drinking environments for both customers and staff and for the promotion of best practice on the licensed premises. The Reading submission highlighted the availability of defibrillators in selected pubs and bars, the provision of training in the care of vulnerable persons including the Ask for Angela campaign, and the local conference to launch the Best Bar None scheme.
There was a focus on the close partnership working with all the stakeholders within the Night Time Economy including Thames Valley Police, Reading Council, Street Pastors, First Stop First Aid, the Business Improvement District, the CAP and the Town Safe Radio scheme.
Supt. Steve Raffield, LPA Commander, Thames Valley Police said: “The Reading Pubwatch is a fine example of partnership working and the sharing of best practice.”
Alexa Volker, BID Manager said: “The Reading town centre PubWatch group continues to be a strong and impactful force, it serves to bring together valued initiatives that strengthen NTE venues.”
Bill Donne, Honorary Secretary to Reading Pubwatch said: “We are delighted that we have been selected as finalists for the NPW Award and reflects the hard work venue managers have made through partnership working in making the town centre a safer place to work and enjoy a night out over the past year.”
Representatives from Reading Pubwatch will attend the awards ceremony which is sponsored by the JD Wetherspoon pub group and is being held at the House of Lords in October.
