Reading is at the heart of the knowledge-intensive economy charged with piloting a future for our planet that is sustainable.
As a place, Reading is also doing its part. We launched our Smart and Sustainable Vision for the Future in 2017. The Reading 2050 Vision outlines an ambitious, smart and sustainable future for Reading, putting green technology, culture and diversity and Reading’s rivers and parks at the heart of its future development.
Many Reading businesses and communities are invested in ensuring they minimise their own impacts through green energy plans, the creation of hydro renewable energy and plans and strategies for the future and a partnership between the University's sustainability team and Reading FC to reduce the Club's carbon footprint.
In March 2023, REDA published Towards a green jobs and skills roadmap for Reading, a report which identifies the interventions in the economy locally that could generate a potential 20,000 green jobs in Reading by 2050.
