Watlington House is a Grade II* listed building. It is the oldest residential house in Reading, having been built around the 1688 and the 1760s. The walled garden to the rear of the house runs alongside South Street down to The Grove. Works to re-imagine the garden were undertaken in 2012-2015. It now reflects the design of a garden of the period of Queen Anne, the design of the rear of the house.
There are two facilities to hire in the Garden Hall which is to the side of the walled garden. The Garden Hall a “Tin Tabernacle” which will hold Overall Capacity, 100 , Seating Capacity 70. It has a separate modern kitchen, with a cooker, microwave, tea and coffee making facilities. Cost £20 per hour. The toilets (2 gents and 1 ladies) are outside. An independent small meeting room attached to the Garden Hall with a couple of long tables which can seat 12. It has its own sink and kettle and loo. Cost £15 per hour. Access to the Garden Hall and Small meeting room is only through the double wooden garden gates on South Street. Parking within the rear of the garden is usually possible. During the working day there are usually around 5 parking spaces available to users users of the meeting rooms. At weekends, and in the evening, around 10 spaces are usually available. There is also pay parking along South Street.
