Purple Flag Accreditation

Reading BID successfully achieved Purple Flag status once again in January 2023. 

Purple Flag is an international accreditation programme for town and city centres that manage the evening and nighttime economy to a standard of excellence. This indicates that a night out in Reading is not only entertaining and enjoyable, but safe, diverse, vibrant, appealing and well-managed. 

Research indicates that Purple Flag can bring real benefits which include:  

• A raised profile and an improved public image for the location 
• A wider patronage and stronger diversification 
• Increased expenditure and footfall 
• Lower crime and anti-social behaviour 
• A more successful mixed-use economy in the longer term 

The Purple Flag initiative is a powerful tool for revitalizing and promoting vibrant and sustainable nighttime economies while fostering a strong sense of community pride and safety.
