Every year, the town centre of Reading transforms into a festive wonderland as Christmas lights are installed from mid-November through early January.
The Christmas lights play a key role in making Reading more vibrant and inviting during the holiday season. They enhance the town's appeal for visitors and create a cheerful atmosphere for the staff working in the area.
The annual light switch-on event is a major highlight, drawing crowds and kicking off the festive period with excitement. In 2024, this event helped to attract 59,100 people to the town centre on 16 November. Beyond this special event, the lights attract increased footfall throughout November and December, supporting local businesses and encouraging community engagement.
The Christmas lights are more than just decorations—Reading BID has used this opportunity to celebrate Reading’s unique landmarks and rich heritage, embracing the town's history and diversity we’re so proud of, from Jane Austen to Banksy. Explore the different 2024 lights here.
