Reading town centre itself is highly walkable, with many of Reading’s attractions, shops and restaurants easily accessible on foot.
For those visiting on legs instead of wheels, Reading boasts a brilliant public transport network to get you a little further afield. The state-of the art Reading Train Station is bang in the middle of the town (just a short 2-minute stroll from the main shopping streets) and connects you with neighbouring towns and all over the country. Reading Buses, UK Bus Operator of the Year, serve all of Reading and the wider area with a very regular service and stops can be found on pretty much every street.
If you do have wheels but fancy some walking too, you can use one of Reading’s many car parks and cycle parks in and around the town centre.
There are also many wonderful walking opportunities from Reading’s centre, with walks along the Great West Way and, of course, the Thames Path on the doorstep. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can use Reading as your base to explore the St James’ Way, an ancient pilgrimage route starting from St James’ Church and leading you all the way to Galicia in Spain.
