Home to leafy suburbs, riverside spaces and quaint countryside villages, you'll find Reading has far more to offer when you explore beyond the vibrant and urban town centre.
The 'capital of the Thames Valley', Reading sits within the wider rural county of Royal Berkshire, with an identity rooted in rich history and heritage and even links to royalty. Made up of its town centre and enveloped by suburbs to its north, east, south and west, you’ll find amazing things to do for the whole family, with cafes, restaurants and places to stay in every corner of the town.
Reading town centre
Sitting at the heart of the town, Reading town centre is not only home to some of the very best shopping in the South East, with three shopping centres and high street shops, but it also boasts a number of attractions, hotels, restaurants and nightlife within walking distance of its brilliant transport connections.
Caversham
To the north of the town centre, sitting on the opposite side of the river, Caversham is a charming suburb, with a village feel and its own very fine collection of eateries and shopping outlets.
West Reading
The most wonderfully cosmopolitan part of the town, and home to Reading’s largest open space and Grade II registered park, Prospect Park, offering fine views across the Kennet Valley.
East Reading
A largely residential neighbourhood, East Reading is made up of suburbs such as Woodley, Earley, Lower Earley as well as the University’ area with the Whiteknights Campus a wonderful award-winning oasis of green space. There also plenty of walks in neighbouring countryside.
South Reading
Home to Reading FC, Green Park and the Whitley residential district, South Reading is Reading’s fastest-developing area with global business HQs, museums, activities and things to do for every member of the family.
Surrounding countryside
You may have guessed by now that Reading has so much more to it than its beautifully urban town centre. Discover miles upon miles of stunning countryside on every border.
