There are lots of options for places to stay in Reading for people walking the Thames Path National Trail or the St James’ Way. And most of them are a short walk from Reading Station, making reaching the start or end of your walk a sustainable journey.

A mile or so out of the town centre, the Hilton is on the St James Way as it leaves Reading. Limber up in the Hilton Pool the night before you set off. Or use the gym or top notch restaurant to treat yourself before you set off.
Located in the heart of the Abbey Quarter, the 5 star Roseate is the nearest hotel to the start of the St James Way. Just 2 minutes from St James Church and little more from Reading Museum, you couldn’t be better placed to start off your walk. Make sure you explore Reading’s Abbey Quarter before you head off. Als, don’t miss their afternoon tea and its Huntley & Palmers biscuits connections.

The Mal is the nearest hotel to Reading Museum where you can buy your pilgrim passport, get it stamped and learn more about Reading’s Medieval history. The Mal was the old Brunel railway hotel so if you are coming by train, then it is literally 100 metres from the station concourse.
Other accommodation close to the St James’ Way route includes Market House, a retro industrial chic hotel with 24 uniquely decorated rooms, House of Fisher on Kings Road, their flagship aparthotel in Reading offering a range of studio, one, two and three bedroom serviced apartments, Hotel 1843, recently reopened after a refurb, the Hotel is thought to have been opened in 1843 by Charles Dickens or the Premier Inn Reading Central.
On the Thames Path
The Crowne Plaza Reading is literally on the Thames Path. The hotel’s terrace overlooks the river and many of its bedrooms have river views too. Premier Inn Caversham Bridge is only a short walk from the river too.
Walking from the east, once you get to Reading Bridge, a short diversion ‘inland’ will take you to Reading town centre in less than 5 minutes. Once there, the world is your oyster in terms of accommodation, with Novotel Reading, Reading Ibis, Malmaison, Penta Hotel, Travelodge and the Roseate among the options.
