Dough Bros @doughbrospizza_reading
Dough Bros has built a loyal following in Reading for a reason. Based on Northumberland Avenue in Whitley, Reading’s well-known local food blogger, Edible Reading announced Dough Bros as their Newcomer of the Year for 2024! The independent restaurant has had fantastic reviews since opening. The whole operation is owned and run by Max Brian-Boys, who left his corporate day job to follow his passion for pizza. Make sure to try their Dough Bros Originals - Honey Honey, Billy Biltong and the Maxy Special! Their little restaurant is perfectly quirky, its walls lined with records and neon lights with a fabulous pizza mural outside. It’s the kind of place where one slice is never enough. Sarv’s Slice @sarvspizzaslice
Tucked inside the Reading Biscuit Factory, Sarv’s Slice is a hidden gem serving up authentic Neapolitan & Detroit-style pizza by the slice. With restaurants only in Ealing and Reading, their Neapolitan pizza has fantastic topping options like Prosciutto e
Funghi and Diavola, but their Detroit pizza is what makes them really stand out in Reading. They refer to it as deep dish crispy cheesy goodness! Ideal for a pre-movie snack or a casual bite, Sarv’s Slice captures the bustling, no-fuss charm of American pizza.
Paesinos @paesinos
Brand new to Abbey Corner in the town centre is the home of Italian Pizzeria, Paesinos, where authentic Italian craftmanship meets global pizza flavours. Paesinos offer some adventurous flavours – from their Tandoori pizza, deliciously covered in feta and jalapenos and their Tonno e Cippola with red onion and tuna, to their Americana with CHIPS on it! And of course, you can’t forget their Nutella dessert pizza for a not-so-little sweet treat.
Zero Degrees @zerodegreesreading
Known for its sleek, industrial vibe and in-house microbrewery, this spot serves up wood-fired pizzas that are as bold as their craft beers. Their dough is light and crispy, the perfect canvas for inventive toppings like crumbled goat’s cheese and roast squash. And who needs a traditional bread sandwich when you can have one made with a pizza base! Try their Hot Honey Fried Chicken or Beer Battered Cod Pizza Sandwich, and pair it with one of their freshly brewed IPAs or lagers for the ultimate flavour combo.
Anima e Cuore @animaecuore_uk
What’s better than pizza? Pizza with craft beer, of course. Anima e Cuore is Italian for heart and soul, deriving from their passion for pizza. They pop up at Double Barrelled Brewery most Saturdays, creating an irresistible combo of artisan pizza and small-batch brews. Their pizzas are rustic, bursting with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and baked to perfection. From classic Margheritas to inventive specials, every slice pairs beautifully with Double Barrelled’s bold beer lineup. It’s a weekend ritual waiting to happen.
The Last Crumb @thelastcrumbpub
Known for its warm, inviting atmosphere and creative menu, this spot in Caversham takes pub pizza to the next level. Whether it’s the Ham n Shroom, Bee Sting or even one of their monthly specials, their sourdough crust is the star, creating a tangy, chewy base. Perfect for a relaxed evening with friends, The Last Crumb is where great pizza meets great vibes.
Zia Lucia @zialuciapizza
Zia Lucia brings a fresh twist to Reading’s pizza scene with its signature doughs, including wholemeal, gluten-free, and even a vegetable charcoal option for their signature black pizza. You also have the option for stuffed crust with either fresh ricotta or ricotta & nduja. But their inventive approach doesn’t stop at the crust—the toppings are just as bold. Expect combinations that won’t skimp on flavour like spicy burrata or spianata spicy salami. It’s pizza with personality, crafted for those who love to explore beyond the traditional.
Thirsty Bear @thirstybearreading
Not only do the chefs at Thirsty Bear know their pizza science, but their extensive pizza menu even offers suggested wine pairings! The vibe is casual, fun, and perfect for groups. Their pizzas are generously topped, with a crisp crust that holds up to bold and delicious ingredients like fig jam, mashed meatballs, pulled pork and panko fried chicken. Perfect night out (or in)!
This list is just a glimpse of all the great food Reading has to offer! If you’re after a different global cuisine or still haven’t made your mind up yet as to what to have for dinner, don’t forget to browse Reading’s other pubs and restaurants.
