As the new year kicks off, many of us are looking for ways to get fit and live a healthier lifestyle. Winter’s weather has been anything but predictable but that shouldn’t stop you in Reading. We have everything from karate to clubbercise so you don’t have to brave the wind and rain! Whether you're looking to build strength, improve flexibility or simply stay active during the colder months, there’s something to suit every interest and fitness level in Reading.
Leisure Centres
If you’re looking for somewhere indoors to swim, look no further than the brand-new Rivermead and Palmer Park leisure centres. At Rivermead, you can book indoor football pitches to use, play a game of badminton or join one of their weekly Pickleball Drop-In Sessions, a fast-growing sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis!
Gyms
In Reading, we have LOADS of gyms, including three Pure Gyms, Buzz Gym, 365 Gym and Warehouse Fitness, all of which are open 24 hours a day so you can work out on your own schedule. Another great option is JGR HQ, a women-only gym.
Dancing
If you're looking for a fun and energetic way to stay fit, dance classes in Reading are a great option to disguise cardio with lots of fun! There are plenty of options, no matter your ability. Whether you're into Zumba, Contemporary, Tap, Swing Dance, Cuban Salsa, Street Dance or Square Dance there’s something for you! Another fantastic option is Rebel Ballet, a class with no age, gender or body shape criteria and no more seeking perfection - a rebellion against the traditional ballet dancer archetype! There are even Bollywood and Bhangra Dance classes hosted by the Indian Community Association and upbeat sessions for Clubbercise for those who’d rather their sweat not be seen! These energetic sessions are set in a dark room full of disco lights, glow sticks and club-classic tracks from the 90s to now.
Climbing
For an activity that will build up your upper body strength, The Climbing Hangar and Parthian Climbing offer day-long sessions for £15 a day. Parthian Climbing offer family and individual taster sessions as well as beginner courses so you can guarantee that you’ll be in good hands if you’ve not tried it before.
Brazilian Capoeira
Capoeira is a form of martial art that mixes dance, acrobatics and music into a fun, high-energy workout. It’s a great way to build cardio endurance while learning cool moves and connecting with others!

Martial Arts
For those looking to add discipline, strength, and self-defence skills to their fitness routine, martial arts classes in Reading are a great choice. KickFit and Reading Taijiquan Academy offer Karate sessions that build strength, agility, and confidence. Lone Wolf Martial Arts offer ladies-only classes on Monday and Thursday evenings, as well as men-only and mixed groups throughout the week. Or if you're looking for a lower-impact exercise that’ll help with general mobility and flexibility, how about Tai Chi classes?

From strength and conditioning, HIIT, yoga, group cycling, water workouts, dance fitness and circuit training, there are lots of options at David Lloyd in Earley. You have the option to use the gym, swimming pool, spa, tennis courts, exercise classes and Clubroom. Plus, to help you maximise your time in the club, they have an on-site crèche, Kids Club and personal training, available at an additional cost.
Netball
Go Mammoth hosts recreational ladies’ teams on Tuesdays, held at Kendrick School. For those looking to get back into netball, you can gather a team and play or sign up as an individual!
Trampolining
An afternoon out trampolining is a great option to have fun with the kids whilst getting a workout in yourself. Oxygen in Reading have 30+ open area trampolines, parkour style stunt areas, an interactive sports pitch with basket battle & hot shot, a Gladiator run, tumble track and cardio wall!
Pilates
Pilates focuses on controlled movements, core strength, alignment and mindful breathing. Core Connexion is a great new Pilates studio that’s just opened near Reading Station. It’s fully stocked with ten reformers, a specialised machine that incorporates springs and pulleys to add resistance. Based in Lower Earley, Power of Pilates have options for 1-1 and livestreamed sessions, offering a variety of introductory offers.
