Finding a place to eat or drink that welcomes you and your dog can be tricky, but in Reading, there are plenty of spots where your furry friend is just as welcome as you. Whether you're after a casual bite, a coffee or a relaxed evening out, here are our top picks for dog-friendly cafes, pubs, and restaurants in the town centre and beyond.
Town Centre
The Rising Sun
The building dates back to the 17th century and with the Abbey only a few minutes away, this gastropub is perfect for a charming dog walk to explore the historic sites of Reading. The garden is a shining feature here as there's plenty of room outside, with a number of decorated pergolas, a colourful shepherd's hut bar and eight elegantly designed and heated dining pods! You can book online to specifically request their dog-friendly dining area and choose from a selection of treats from their menu, just for dogs!
Zero Degrees
This microbrewery, a minute's walk from The Oracle, is where craft beer meets pizza. Play a ball game of your own with a round of pool or relax on their outdoor terrace and garden booths. Perfect for dog-accompanied drinks, family meals or private events.
Siren
Located on Friar Street, Siren is a great place to unwind with a refreshing craft beer in your hand if you're in town. They also have outdoor seating for you to enjoy if the sun is shining!
The Fisherman’s Cottage
This charming gastropub is metres from the River Kennet and a prime spot for walks and beautiful views. The outdoor seating directly overlooks the water - a great space to enjoy a freshly cooked meal from their vast selection.
Blue Collar Corner
Blue Collar features the quirkiest and most imaginative food traders around. With a huge beer garden in the summer and covered, cosy and heated seating in the winter, it's perfect for all year round. It's open on Thursday and Friday from 5pm and on weekends from 11am. Dogs are welcome until 8pm so this is a great option for a weekend lunch stop or afternoon drinks!

Pop into store and share a pot of speciality tea and a scrummy cake, while taking in the colourful interior, tranquil atmosphere and the fresh floral aroma!
Phantom Brewery
The team at Phantom Brewery love to make a fuss of your four-legged friends. This is the perfect spacious venue to choose from a selection of craft beers on tap and cans from their fully-stocked fridge. Indulge in a juicy burger or their buttermilk chicken tenders ordered from their foodie partner in crime, 7Bone.
Further Out
The Cunning Man
Located on Burghfield Road, right next to the beautiful River Kennet, The Cunning Man is a great place to eat a big meal before walking it off along the scenic path. With plenty of free parking, if you register your reg number inside, it's easy to bring your dog here. They have water and treats ready at the bar to ensure your dogs are as comfortable as you are!
Alto Lounge
Set in scenic Caversham, Alto Lounge has a fabulous menu full of sandwiches, flatbreads and burgers as well as a range of great mains. You won't be the only one getting spoiled here - there are rumours about a stash of little treats that come out when furry friends visit.
The Last Crumb
Just down the road is The Last Crumb! With a brunch menu and quizzes every other Thursday, this pub will welcome you and your dog when you're next in town.
The Fox & Hounds
A beautifully refurbished pub in Theale with a traditional beer garden. This pub is a short walk from the River Kennet and the beautiful dog-friendly Hosehill Lake, surrounded by gorgeously green meadows and ponds.
Double-Barrelled Brewery
For a selection of 12 delicious craft beers on tap (alongside a rotating range of street food vendors), Double-Barrelled is the place to be. Bring your most precious pup, grab your favourite brew and enjoy the atmosphere whilst playing a game from their selection.

If you're looking for a relaxing hot drink towards Woodley way, there are dog-friendly areas within Coffee #1 for you and your dog to get comfy and enjoy a much-needed treat, whether that's a bone biscuit or a slice of cake!

At Mad Hatters, you can bring your dog to accompany you as you eat, drink and paint. But why leave it there?
